Are these pesky little excavators driving you crazy? A Mole can be one of the most interesting and amazing little mammals God has created just not when they are destroying your yard! Yes God made moles unique, unlike any other animal. For example, a mole will sometimes bite the head off an earthworm and then store the body in a room called a larder to eat later. The worm cannot dig to escape without its head and will stay alive while growing a new one. So, it’s like the Mole has his own underground Cafeteria! Moles definitely need one since they eat around 60–100% of their bodyweight a day! Now that’s a lot of earthworms and insects! They are superfast diggers and can dig tunnels at a rate of 18 feet an hour! Now that’s some mass excavation by the little fella! Also, while traveling in their tunnels, they can go both directions at the same speed because they have no nap in their fur. Their fur is so soft! They are constantly digging tunnels and making molehills while searching for worms, grubs and insects. All these are fun facts unless they are destroying your lawn, but I can teach you how to catch them! It’s all about timing and you do not have to stand for hours just watching the ground. Just follow these easy steps below.
Step 1. Walk down all the tunnels/runs the night before so that all the ground is totally flat with no raised areas.
Step 2. First thing the next morning go out and check the walked down areas. Moles generally eat about every four hours so look for any raised areas in the grass and if there are none then go about your day and check it again every half hour or hour.
Step 3. Once you come back and see a raised tunnel, walk very quietly up next to that area. Moles have a keen sense for movement and will probably hear you walking up and temporarily stop working.
Step 4. Next… Stop-Stand-Stare – Stand in the same spot and watch the ground for movement. It may happen fast or it may take 3–5 minutes until the mole feels comfortable to start digging again.
Step 5. When you see the mole digging again, stomp right behind the mole to shut off its access to the tunnel. Once this is done, you can quickly flip the mole out with a shovel or a mattock! Tada! You just caught your first mole! LOL
CAUTION: Be extremely careful as moles have 44 teeth and will bite! Use your bare hands at your own risk!

In 2023 I began translocating and releasing moles. God blessed me with a great job and I do this as a free service. I pay to transport and feed them myself. I haul them in the MOLE-TEL I built for the back of my car. I owe a lot to my father. I really miss him. He was a Godly man, a hard worker and known to literally fix anything broken. He raised me to go to Church, to follow God’s ways, to always be honest… and he also taught me how to catch moles. He was good at it. He caught moles for everyone and never charged them a dime. In January of 2017 he was diagnosed with brain cancer and in April my father went home to be with the Lord. I was devastated. In June later that year we moved to a new home and a mole showed up in my yard. I thought I would try to catch it like my father had showed me and sure enough it was a success! From one neighbor’s yard to the next, I began catching moles. The more I caught the more I learned.
I started wearing my Dad’s Cowboy Hat and Boots when I went out. Putting them on was a great feeling. Then in April of 2020 during Covid I went to catch a mole using my father’s technique and tore my ACL & MCL in my right knee. Now with my knee in a big brace stomping the ground was awkward. I began to brainstorm other ways to collapse the mole’s tunnel and ultimately landed on “Punching behind the mole and pulling it out of the ground alive!” The first day I tried it, BOOM! Mission accomplished! I was hooked and ‘Pound The Ground’ was born! My Dad would be so proud!
I will never be able to fill the big shoes my father left behind, but I will continue to try to follow in his footsteps. I love you, Dad. Until we meet again…
Just as a mole can wreak havoc and destroy our lawns, SIN in our life can lead to destruction as well, the ultimate destruction… DEATH! In the Bible Romans 6:23 tells us, “For the wages of sin is death”… and we all sin! Romans 3:23 echoes that, “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” All means ALL! There is no way around it. I am a sinner and YOU are a sinner. We both carry the weight of sin. Romans 6:23 goes on to say, “For the wages of sin is death, BUT the gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.” That is great news! SIN = DEATH but CHRIST = LIFE! We can find HOPE in Christ!
Romans 5:8 states, “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Because Jesus loves us unconditionally, in spite of our sin, He died on a cross to pay our sin debt in full! Romans 8:1 says, “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.”
If we put our FAITH in Christ and trust Him to forgive us of our sin we are no longer condemned to hell or have to live in shame. We can experience FREEDOM in Christ Jesus! Scripture tells us, ‘That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.’ Romans 10:9. Sometimes we tend to complicate things in life but God made it simple…

Romans 10:13 says for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” If you chose to believe and ask Christ to be your Savior, you are a new person and you will want to live for Him! You’ve been Forgiven and Redeemed!
